Mentor Program - Call for Volunteers!

In order to increase chapter involvement and in order to add value to membership for our members, we are looking to create a mentor program.

Here is a general sketch of what we are proposing:

1. Identify the top needs/subject matters/BoKs that warrant a mentor program
2. Identify Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) within the chapter who could create a learning plan
   1. The SME could be a member of the SLT but would not have to be an SLT member
   2. The SME must be an ASQ Granite State Chapter Member in good standing and hold a current certification within the relevant BoK
   3. The mentor program would include the ASQ handbook and the QCI exam software
3. Working with the Education Chair, the SMEs will create a standardized learning plan that could be used by any SME as a training vehicle
   1. The look and feel will be similar, i.e. standardized, for the sake of consistency
   2. The time to deliver would be uniform but alterable; for example, each learning plan would encompass 6 modules (this number is just a suggestion) with the expectation that the mentorship would last 6 weeks
4. A mentor would have the following responsibilities:
   1. Meet-and-greet the participant
   2. Ensure that the member has registered for the exam
   3. Ensure that the member has the ASQ Handbook & QCI exam
   4. Ensure that the member has the learning plan
   5. Answer any emails that the member may have during each week of study
   6. Allot one hour of phone/face-to-face time per week for the member (if the member decides to pass on the phone call or the face-to-face meeting then “so be it!”)
   7. A mentor should not have more than 3 – 5 mentorships occurring at any given time
5. We could market the mentor program as an affordable way to receive expert and personal guidance as a member prepares for a certification
   1. The registration fee could be $200 (not including books and CDs)
   2. The stipend to the mentor could be $100
   3. We could advertise and expand the program outside of New Hampshire!
6. As the program grows, we could:
   1. Build a library of peripheral learning materials for each BoK
   2. Have a chapter WebEx (or related app) for the mentors to use
   3. Create a LinkedIn Group and use its “discussions” functionality to foster interaction; the added bonus here would be the visibility generated by the media
7. We also have the opportunity to take each learning plan and develop the plan into a full-fledged self-learning module.
