Unconscious Bias - What we don't know we don't know.
17 May 2017
presented by Suzanne Murphy, Founder: Performance Through Leadership
Biases. It's an uncomfortable topic. We all have them, but we don't want to believe that they're impacting the decision we make, the way we see the world and the way we interact with others.

Researchers estimate that there are nearly 150 unconscious biases that may be influencing us at any moment: confirmation bias, group think, affirmation bias, the "halo effect", etc. The key to managing them is understanding how the brain works so you can rely on those biases that are helping you and intercept those that are not.

In this segment, we'll learn about how the brain works and why it creates biases, how certain biases impact decision, and tips for how to mitigate them.

Quality System Software Validation in the Medical Device Industry
18 April 2017
presented by Chuck Offutt
The US Food and Drug Administration’s Quality System Regulation (Code of Federal Regulations Title 21 Part 820) uses the terms verification and validation (V&V) in several sections. V&V are required as part of designing and developing a medical device, as part of implementing a manufacturing production process or an automated system, as part of ensuring the appropriateness of a design, production or other process change, and as part of ensuring that a corrective or preventive action is effective and does not adversely impact product.

While the concept of validating software used in a medical device or software that is a medical device seems intuitive, this presentation will discuss the importance of validation of the computer software used to auto

Causal Loop Diagrams in Quality
12 January 2017
The Causal Loop Diagram (CLD) is a powerful tool that can enhance the effectiveness of other Quality tools such as Process Flowcharts and Process FMEA’s, particularly in complex processes. In this presentation, we will discuss the Systems Thinking concepts underlying CLD and will offer guidelines for the use of the tool. We will review CLD Archetypes as they represent Quality and Organizational issues. And, we will apply CLD to real world examples of complex quality and business issues to illustrate its power in identifying leverage points to target when developing effective, long-term solutions. Finally we will examine how to combine CLD’s with standard Quality Tools to enhance our understanding of the dynamic behavior of the processes within our areas of concern.

Muda in Our Midst
15 November 2016
presented by: Kurt Stuke
Within the Lean world, the identification of waste (or “muda”) is the first step toward process improvement. Through the identification of both the type of waste and the source of waste, streamlining and optimization becomes possible.
Within this interactive session, instead of using a hypothetical scenario or a remote case-study, we will use the issue of decreased chapter engagement as our focus.
Employing the acronym of “DOWNTIME” to help us frame the individual types of waste, we will examine the many types of waste acting as barriers to member engagement in our chapter.

A Serious (and not so Serious) look at Statistical Terms

This presentation will act as a review of basic and advanced terminology used in statistics. For those new to statistics, this presentation would serve as an introduction to the terminology used. For individuals who have been in the field for some time, the presentation would act as a refresher. The “not so serious “ part will keep the presentation light hearted.

Six Sigma in Six Minutes
presented by Dan Zwillinger
17 May 2016
A new teaching paradigm called "6 Sigma in 6 Minutes" provides an efficient method to increase exposure to 6s tools. Each 6in6 presentation gives a six minute, 2 slide, overview of a 6s tool. Originally developed at Raytheon, many 6in6 presentations have been created. They are used to acquaint employees with 6s tools in different settings, including project kick-offs and regularly scheduled meetings. They are well received since they deliver exposure without a large time commitment.

5 Steps to Improving Personal and Team Performance
As human beings we tend to fall in a rut and continue to do the same things in the same way over and over, and as a result we remain where we are. As professionals, we focus on carrying out day-to-day activities, serving clients or doing what we are told to do and our success and impact are limited. Your talents, skills and educational background and job description are not enough for success and growth.
If you are not achieving the results you want as an individual or as a team, there are some things you need to consider to help you increase your effectiveness and maximize your growth. To achieve extraordinary results you need to bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be.
